Susan Wayne Center, a residential special education school providing comprehensive services for adolescents coping with the dual challenges of emotional disturbance and mild to moderate cognitive deficits, is seeking a candidate for a special education teaching position. Must be Special Education certified in Connecticut, Master’s Degree level preferred, be familiar with IEP development and have knowledge of CT Curriculum Frameworks. Experience working with intellectually disabled and behaviorally challenged adolescents is preferred.
The salary is $50,000.00 and includes a comprehensive benefit package with some tuition reimbursement.

JOB SPECIFICATION:
- Connecticut Special Education teaching certification.
- Masters degree preferred
- Familiarity with CT Curriculum Framework
- Valid Driver’s license
- Experience working with adolescents, preferably in a residential treatment setting
- Ability to be certified in American Red Cross CPR/First Aid
- Ability to be certified in CALM
- Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.
- Ability to independently plan and organize one’s own schedule and activities.
- Knowledge of basic Microsoft computer systems & internet.
- Acceptable CORI (Criminal Offender Record Assessment)
As a condition of employment, all new hires must successfully pass the following checks: a pre-employment physical examination and drug test, a motor vehicle records check, and a post-offer background check as it pertains to DCF involvement ("LINK Check"). Also, as required by Connecticut General Statute (C.G.S. 17a-112) a criminal background check (both Connecticut State Police and FBI) including fingerprinting, will be conducted prior to the start of employment.
